Three Haunted Houses in America

When you think of haunted houses in the United States, several will probably come to mind immediately. There is the Winchester Mystery House that is located in San Jose, California as well as the Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana. Many witnesses have had paranormal experiences at these locations. I will be focusing on both of these sites today along with one other.

The Winchester Mystery House

The obvious choice when I think of haunted houses is the Winchester Mystery House. Sarah Winchester believed her house was haunted due to the Winchester Rifle. She thought spirits were unsettled due to being killed with this gun and that they would eventually seek revenge. Construction began on her home and would until her death in 1922. Strange activity has since occurred here. It has been said voices can be heard as well as footsteps about the house. People have seen knobs on doors move without anyone being on the other side. Still other phenomena includes spots that are cold for no reason and lights that move.

The Whaley House
This haunted house was once owned by Thomas Whaley. He lived here with his family until the year of 1885, at least physically. It is said that the spirits of Whaley and his wife Anna, can still be seen and heard here to this day. Supernatural occurrences include actual apparitions of Thomas smoking what appears to be a pipe along with Anna tending to her daily household duties. Music, singing and laughing can all be heard as well.

Myrtles Plantation
Out of all the haunted houses, this is probably one of the spookiest. This house was created by one David Bradford in the year of 1796. It has been said that many spirits haunt the Myrtles Plantation. Just a few include Chloe who was a maid, a girl who appears to be of a young age with hair that is long and curly and a spirit who wears a bonnet that is green. Other bizarre activity include strange images on a mirror, weird noises along with a that piano will play on its own.

One Response to “Three Haunted Houses in America”

  1. in actuality the winchester mystery house is based loosely on the stephen king novel and movie rose red. where mrs.winchester believed that her house was haunted and built many rooms to appease them and to keep them from finding and killing her. this is the site of the staircase to nowhere, where a quick step thru one of the doors will plummet you several stories to your death. The Myrtles plantation, the slave, chloe, was the master of the houses mistress but was caught eavesdropping one day and he cut off her ear. So to get back into his good graces, she baked a cake with poisonous oleander in it killing the mans two daughters and wife, hi children also haunt the plantation. No, I’m not tryin to be rude, i just love the stories of Myrtles and the winchester mystery house and thought i would add alittle more info on 2 of the 3. : )
