Haunted Places In England

There are several haunted places in England so it was difficult to narrow it down to just a few. A future post might be in order for more haunted places here. These true tales below would make for great ghost stories this Halloween.

Raynham Hall in Norfolk

This massive house in the country was owned by a family who went by the name Townshend. It is probably one of the more well known haunted places in England. It is due in part to two lucky photographers who managed to photograph an actual apparition. This ghost  was dubbed the brown lady. The famous photo has circulated in articles and books since 1936. These sightings of the brown lady go all the way back to the 1800’s. Most witnesses have seen the apparition on the stairs. The most gruesome sight of her was caught by one man who claimed that she had no eyes in her sockets.

Chillingham Castle in Northumberland

Next up for our haunted places in England is the Chillingham Castle. This massive castle dates all the way back to the 1200’s was owned by the Wakefield family. It’s history is extremely extensive making it a breeding ground for ghosts. It has been said that three ghosts currently haunt this location. The more well known out of the three is a young boy whose remains are still at the castle. People have heard strange moans and his apparition takes on a blue color.

Borley Rectory in Essex

This mansion was built in the late 1800’s but eventually burned down in the year 1939.  Strange activity began immediately after the mansion was erected. Many people have encountered apparitions that have included a nun as well as horsemen that were headless. Other paranormal events have happened such as the ringing of bells, footsteps, bizarre lights, writing on walls as well as windows breaking.
